A MOTORIST has been charged with driving dangerously at speeds of more than 100mph through a series of Greenock town centre streets with 30mph speed limits.
Anthony Rutherford, 39, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court accused of driving dangerously and without due care and attention in Rue End Street, East Hamilton Street and Port Glasgow Road on 3 October.
He is alleged to have undertaken a series of cars which were travelling more slowly than his vehicle while failing to indicate, and is charged with carrying out the manoeuvres while travelling at speeds up to and in excess of 100mph. The charge states the driving was carried out while the weather conditions on the road were hazardous.
Rutherford, of Brisbane Street, Greenock, had the case against him continued without plea after it was called by depute fiscal Tom Smyth before Sheriff Vincent Canavan on Thursday.
Matters were continued by Sheriff Canavan until the end of February. Rutherford is expected to appear again then.
