ATTEMPT MURDER CHARGE: Man is currently on trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
A MOTHER told a jury she thought her daughter was dead after being hit by a driver.
The woman claimed her daughter was struck by Edward Boyle's car in Nairn Road, Greenock, last October.
The 42-year-old said she collapsed in a heap after watching her daughter 'flying into the air like a rag doll'.
Boyle, 35, is on trial at the High Court in Glasgow accused of attempted murder by driving his Peugeot car at the daughter.
The jury was told the mother had an exchange with Boyle as she went to visit a relative in Nairn Road on the evening of 3 October. The accused was visiting his brother, who stayed in the same street.
The mum later left along with her two daughters and spotted Boyle's car on the same side of the road as them.
Prosecutor Peter Ferguson QC asked: "Did something happen next?"
She said: "He was revving his engine. I hit the car and called him something like a clown or an idiot.
"He then zoomed the car and hit my daughter. She flew into the air like rag doll.
"It was like something out of a horror scene. It was surreal and nasty. Edward Boyle got out of the car and ran off. I collapsed into a heap, I thought my daughter was dead."
When asked if she thought the collision could have been accidental, the mum replied: "No."
Boyle's counsel Thomas Ross later suggested to the mother that she was trying to exaggeratematters to make things worsefor the accused.
However, the witness denied this was the case. The jury heard the girl did not suffer any major injuries.
Boyle, of Banff Road, Greenock, denies an attempted murder charge. The trial, before Judge Mark Stewart QC, continues.
