HUNDREDS of Inverclyde civil servants went on strike today over Government plans to change redundancy payments.
The 48-hour strike will see 800 workers from the court service, Jobcentre and Clyde coastguard staff in Inverclyde mount picket lines against plans for 10,000 redundancies across the UK next year.
MoD guard Joe Carter, 56, from Port Glasgow, who works at the Navy Buildings in Greenock said he hopes the Government negotiates with workers and that the strike 'doesn't drag on'.
He said: "We're not too happy about it and it was a last resort to strike."
Fellow MoD guard Ellen Connell said: "I was just gutted that they would just slash part of the conditions of services."
The civil servants' strike action is due to continue until tomorrow.
