Fury as beer kegs dumped on graves

ANGER: Kegs were dumped.
A GRIEVING relative has hit out after 36 beer kegs were dumped on graves at Greenock Cemetery.
A graveyard worker found the aluminium kegs strewn across graves near to the Bow Road entrance on Saturday and immediately contacted police.
Greenock man James Wilson, 59, who was laying flowers at a grave on Sunday afternoon, was upset by the discovery.
He told the Tele: "It's a piece of nonsense that someone would do that.
"It's ridiculous. The gates to the cemetery should be closed at night. At the moment, the gates are actually fixed open.
"There are community wardens up there but the kegs were dumped where the
wardens would not be patrolling."
Constable Stuart Inglis, of Greenock police's community safety department, said police are investigating the matter.
He said: "People should show a wee bit of decency. This is scandalous. I find it displeasing that anyone would dump anything in a place of rest. People are going there to pay their respects."
Inverclyde Council workers removed the kegs yesterday afternoon. A spokesman said: "The only way into the cemetery at night is through the main entrance, which is left open to allow emergency service access if required.
"As police are investigating, it would not be appropriate to comment any further."
Anyone with information relating to the dumping should phone crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or 492500.
