STASH: Greenock police office.

POLICE have retrieved a treasure trove of stolen goods worth thousands of pounds.

The stash of cash, jewellery and mobile phones was seized in connection with a spate of break-ins in Inverclyde.

The items were taken over the last couple of months from across Greenock and as far afield as Wemyss Bay, Skelmorlie and Kilmacolm. Police are now appealing for the owners to come forward to claim the property

Included in the £2,000 haul are four mobile phones; two are silver, one is purple and one black.

There is also a man's watch with a brown leather strap and a silver watch.

A silver chain and black handbag were also recovered, along with a make-up bag with cosmetics and a three-figure-sum of money.

Detective Inspector John Dearie, of Greenock police, said there was a series of break-ins into homes and sneak-in thefts in Inverclyde.

He said as a result the police are now trying to trace the owners of the property.

He said: "It may be the case that people do not know the property is missing yet and we are asking if anyone can identify these items to help the police with our inquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to call Greenock police constables David Tomlinson or Alex Allardyce on 0141 532 5973.
