A DISTRAUGHT dad fears his son could be brain damaged after a brutal attack in Greenock.
Stewart Harrington, 22, suffered head injuries when he was assaulted in the Homebase DIY car park the early hours of Sunday morning.
He was being treated in the high-dependency unit at Inverclyde Royal Hospital but his lack of recovery baffled medics.
Stewart was transferred to the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow on Wednesday night.
His distraught father, John, 59, said: "The doctors can't find out why he's not responding. Stewart cannot even talk - he's trying to speak and he's getting very distressed.
"I'm worried he might have brain damage."
Stewart's mum has held an all-night vigil at his bedside.
John said: "I just don't know what's happening - the police haven't been in touch.
"Somebody must know something. He was with somebody at the time. I'm in shock. It's been a shock for all the family."
Stewart was assaulted and found unconscious in the Homebase car park at 3.20am on Sunday.
Police are still trying to establish what happened, but believe he could have been struck with a piece of wood.
His mum made a heart-felt appeal for information in Wednesday's Tele.
Anyone who can help police with their inquiries should call 492500, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
