FIRE: Police at scene yesterday.

VANDALS set a transit van and a caravan on fire in Greenock yesterday morning.

The works van was targeted in Lansbury Street, Gibshill, at 9am, causing extensive damage to the front of the vehicle.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze but they were called out to the same street 10 minutes later when an old caravan was torched.

The caravan was parked in gravel pitches and police say the vehicle was extensively damaged.

Two youths were seen in the area at the time and police are interviewing witnesses.

Sergeant Alison Kennedy, of Greenock police, said: "We are treating the incidents as wilful fire-raising.

"Given the time and location of each fire, they could potentially be linked."
