A NIGHTCLUB steward had to be taken to hospital for emergency treatment after being bitten by a violent thug.
Kevin Devine, 24, sank his teeth into the bouncer's finger after being asked to leave Red, in Cross Shore Street, Greenock, because of his drunken state.
Devine could now be facing prison for the attack after a sheriff deferred sentence for background reports until next month.
The 24-year-old pleaded guilty to the assault minutes before he was due to stand trial last week.
Depute fiscal Tom Smyth told Greenock Sheriff Court Devine had been asked to leave the premises at 2am after getting into a drunken state.
He said: "He was very drunk and began bumping into people and spilling his drink over them. He was warned about his conduct and eventually asked to leave.
"A steward began to walk him towards the exit and a struggle began between the two men, during which Devine bit his finger."
The court heard the man was taken to Inverclyde Royal Hospital following the attack, where he was given a tetanus injection and put on a course of antibiotics as a result of a bite wound on his pinkie finger.
Devine, of Islay Avenue, Port Glasgow, admitted assaulting the man in Red on 17 May through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher when he appeared before Sheriff Vincent Canavan.
Sheriff Canavan warned Devine: "This is a serious matter. I will need a full range of reports in this case."
The 24-year-old was released to appear again in May for sentencing.
