A GREENOCK bank worker has appeared in court charged with carrying out a fraud worth almost £40,000.
Paul Alford, 31, is alleged to have carried out the offences while employed at the Lloyds TSB branch in Paisley town centre.
The first charge alleges that on 23 March 2006 at Lloyds TSB in High Street, Paisley, Alford pretended to a female worker that a Langbank man had applied for a loan of £25,000 and induced the clerk to grant the loan, obtaining £25,000 by fraud.
On 10 November 2006 at the same branch, Alford is then alleged to have pretended to another female employee the man given the loan had withdrawn £4,000 from his account, inducing the worker to withdraw £4,000 from the account, and took it for his own use.
A third charge claims that 16 days later, Alford pretended to another employee there that a Greenock man had applied for a loan of £10,000, inducing bank staff to grant the loan, and obtaining £10,000 by fraud.
Alford, of Brougham Street, appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Thursday where he pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
Matters were continued until later this month when the accused is expected to reappear.
