A MAJOR search was launched after a five-year-old boy went missing in Greenock last night.

The youngster's worried family raised the alarm after he vanished while out playing.

A police helicopter was scrambled after officers were alerted to the boy's disappearance.

A full-scale search was launched in the streets around his house in Craigieknowes Street at 6pm.

Minutes later, the police helicopter was scouring the east end area, with officers on the ground also involved in the search.

After an hour, the boy was found an hour playing outside Cartsdyke Court, a couple of streets away from where he lives.

It is understood a relative lives in the high rise block.

A police spokesman said: "We launched a search and the boy turned up, much to the satisfaction of both his parents and the police."
