JOYRIDERS stole a pensioner's motorised scooter worth hundreds of pounds and were spotted larking about in a park on it.
Alan Jubber, 82, keeps the mobility vehicle in his garage for his wife Iris to use.
But he unlocked the electronic garage doors by mistake on Friday night.
He discovered the scooter was missing the next day. It was later recovered in Darroch Park.
Mr Jubber, of Craigmuschat Road, said: "The thieves are opportunists - when they see something like that they think they'll have a go.
"The scooter was all muddy and the bracket and basket at the front was all crumpled."
Mr Jubber's wife, Iris, 79, has had two hip replacements and has to use a walking stick. Following a recent operation, she used the scooter to rest her leg.
Mr Jubber reported the scooter was missing at Gourock police station on Saturday and was told a similar vehicle was being kept at Greenock police office.
Detective Sergeant Andy Dunn, of Greenock police, said: "This is absolutely despicable. This elderly couple obviously rely on this scooter.
"It was recovered in Darroch Park after two males were seen taking turns on the scooter at 6am on Saturday morning."
Anyone who has any information on the theft can call Greenock Police on 492500, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
