Pupils deliver record exam results

TALENTED school kids have made it a record year for Inverclyde - scoring the best exam pass rate since 2004.

A massive 95.8 per cent of fourth-year pupils got five or more Standard Grades at Foundation level when certificates dropped through the letter boxes today.

Awards at General level have also hit a record high.

An amazing 94.8 per cent of secondary four youngsters passed their Maths and English Standard Grades at level three and up.

The number of fifth- year pupils achieving more than one Higher this year has increased to 41.8 per cent.

Education bosses today heaped praise on Inverclyde's hard-working kids.

Convener of Education and Lifelong Learning Councillor Iain McKenzie, below, said: "I would like to congratulate every pupil for their hard work, which is reflected in these encouraging results. I know there will be some who will be

disappointed, but there will be further opportunities and support to help them achieve the qualifications they need to

pursue their chosen careers.

"I would also like to thank the staff for their continued her work and enthusiasm in meeting the educational needs of our young people to help them become educated, informed, responsible citizens.

"The Council recognises that education is the key to creating life chances for our young people and it is encouraging that these results reflect the upward trend in attainment.

"I am confident with the investment we are making in new schools and with the dedication of our teaching staff we will continue to see standards improve.

"Finally, I would like to thank the parents who play such an active role in the education of our young pupils for their continued support."
