ON SONG: Euan and Ailie.

TALENTED brother and sister Euan and Ailie MacDougall have been hitting the high notes in front of an audience of 5,000 at the prestigious Royal Albert Hall in London.

The musical duo beat off tough competition to win the chance to sing with the RSNO Junior Chorus as part of the BBC Proms last week.

The chorus was invited to take part in a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No.3 with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and the Edinburgh Festival Choir at the event, which was broadcast on radio and TV.

Ailie, 14, said: “It was a great experience to sing at the Royal Albert Hall, pictured, inset right, at such a young age.

“As I walked onto the stage I couldn’t believe I was going to sing in one of the most famous concert halls in the world.

“The acoustics were amazing and there were more than 5,000 people there.”

Brother Euan, 13, added: “The whole trip was really good and we also had some time to go sightseeing in London before coming home,”

Ailie and Euan, right, live in Wemyss Bay and are also members of Inverclyde Schools Senior and Junior Choirs.

They have been members of the RSNO Junior Chorus for the past eight years, performing at venues across Scotland and abroad.

In January they travelled to Holland for a performance of Faure’s Requiem at the Concertgebouw, in Amsterdam, with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

Ailie also sings with the National Girls Choir and Euan with the National Boys Choir. Both youngsters are pupils at Cedars School of Excellence in Greenock.

Proud parents Ken and Morag were at the Proms to see their children perform and thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Ken said: “It was a great occasion for the kids and for us as well. It was the first time we had been in the Albert Hall.”

When they are not singing, the Mac-Dougalls enjoy a variety of other activities. Ailie plays the bagpipes and is a member of the local air cadets, while Euan is a member of 3rd Gourock BB and Inverclyde Amateur Swimming Club.
