Lucia is named area's top Recruit

LUCIA Giuntoli was named Inverclyde’s most outstanding Recruit at a glittering awards ceremony - and landed the job of her dreams.

The 18-year-old was one of eight pupils to secure employment during the event in Greenock Town Hall.

She was named Top Recruit and secured a year-long contract worth £18,000 with RBS Mortgage Centre.

The finalists had believed they were competing for five jobs. However, during the ceremony, competition creator Robert Lamb revealed there would be a further three up for grabs.

Two of the employers - RBS Mortgage Centre, and T Mobile - were so impressed with the candidates on the summer-long programme, they decided to create three and two positions respectively.

Maryann Fleming, of RBS, told the packed audience: “I challenged our director and said we have seen some fantastic young people. We need these guys on board.”

Andrew Ashby of T-Mobile, added: “We found ourselves in a similar situation with the calibre of people we saw.”

Thirty Recruits signed up for the programme in April.

Lucia, 18, of Greenock Academy, was thrilled to be named overall winner.

She said: “I’m so happy. It is unbelievable. I didn’t expect it one bit.”

Joining Lucia at RBS on £14,000 will be Rory McEwing, 18, of Greenock Academy, and Ilaria Moretti, 17, of St Columba’s.

Jade Thomson, 16, of Greenock Academy, is going to T-Mobile, along with Brian Kershaw, 17, of Notre Dame.

Christina Owen, 17, of Notre Dame, is going to Inverclyde Council’s community learning and development department.

Arman Hussain, 16, of Greenock Academy, has been hired by Milne Craig Accountants, and Nicola Black, 17, a pupil at Notre Dame, is heading to the council’s education department.
