A MAN has appeared in court charged with the murder of Brian Docherty.
Andrew Docherty, 24, appeared in private at Greenock Sheriff Court yesterday afternoon accused of killing the 55-year-old within a flat in Clynder Road on 16 August.
It is alleged that, while acting with another person, Docherty assaulted the victim and did repeatedly strike him on the head and body and did murder him.
Docherty, of Maple Road, Greenock, was represented by defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher during his appearance before Sheriff Rajni Swanney yesterday.
Mr Gallagher made no plea or declaration on his client’s behalf.
The case was continued. Docherty will appear at a later date.
Last night, police confirmed a second man, aged 28, has been arrested in connection with Mr Docherty’s death. He is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court today
