STUNNING Miss Scotland Nicola Mimnagh has the force of the law behind her - her Greenock detective dad.

The glamorous graduate has sent male pulses soaring since she was crowned the nation’s beauty queen earlier this year.

But before any likely-lad suitors get ideas about asking her out, they have to get past her protective father Jim, who is a detective sergeant at Greenock police station.

Jim, 53, said: “I’m a very strict dad. I always get their name, address and inside leg measurement. She’s always reluctant to bring anyone home - this is a very precious commodity we’re talking about.

“I suppose nobody will be good enough for my wee girl. I’ve had a bit of mickey-taking from my colleagues at work - they’ve been ribbing me about it.”

Nicola, 24, has brains as well as beauty, and completed a politics degree at Glasgow Caledonian University.

The whole family is thrilled by her success, including mum Joan and nineteen-year-old brother Andrew.

Jim, of Kilbarchan, Renfrewshire, said: “We’re immensely proud of her. She started modelling while she was at university and kept it going after she graduated.

“She won a competition to model for a high-street clothing store and appeared in their catalogue, then an agency started looking after her.”

He revealed Nicola only entered the Miss Scotland contest at the last minute. Jim said: “She decided to give it a bash. It was a last-moment thing and she was lucky enough to get to the finals.”

Nicola’s modelling career has taken her all over the world and she is now gearing up for the glittering Miss World event in China in October.

But she’s kept her feet on the ground and thrown herself into charity work for CHAS and Help For Heroes.

The modest police officer is taking all the credit for Nicola’s good looks. Jim quipped: “She’s definitely off the Mimnagh side of the family.”
