A LOCAL MSP has welcomed the announcement that Scottish Water will freeze household water charges for 2012/13.

In April, household charges will stay the same level as they have for four years - meaning the average fee will remain at £324.

The SNP's Stuart McMillan today hailed the news.

Mr McMillan said: "This is fantastic news for customers, giving them a helping hand during a time when household budgets are stretched.

"Scotland now has amongst the lowest water charges in the UK, proving why it is vital to keep Scottish Water safe in public hands.

"The SNP Government will ensure customers benefit from public ownership with lower bills and excellent services."
