Inspectors praise education centre
AN EDUCATION centre in Greenock has been praised by inspectors.
Watchdogs pinpointed a series of strengths at the Mearns Centre in Greenock, which is run by Inverclyde Council.
They praised the way the centre helps the young people it works with to 'grow in confidence'.
Positive partnerships between teaching staff and social work personnel were also highlighted.
Inspectors said this joint working provided 'total support for the young person at school, at home and in the community'.
They also singled out the enthusiasm and energy of the staff team, plus the level of dedication shown by the centre's principal teacher.
Three areas where further improvements could be made were identified.
The inspectors say that the curriculum could be developed in line with the national curriculum for excellence.
Management have also been asked to continue to develop self-evaluation and planning across social work and education teams, plus early intervention strategies.
A spokesperson for Education Scotland said: "We are satisfied with the overall quality of provision.
"We are confident that the centre's self-evaluation processes are leading to improvements."
