A MUM has made an appeal for her daughter to come home after she disappeared yesterday.
Melissa McMillan, 16, went missing from her home in Greenock's east end at around 3pm yesterday and has not been seen since.
Her mum Janice told the Telegraph that it is 'totally out of character' for her daughter not to be in touch for so long.
Former Inverclyde Academy pupil Melissa hasn't been seen since she left her Macgillivray Avenue home to go to the nearby shops in Sinclair Street.
Melissa was wearing a cream Barbour jacket, denim shorts, tights, and brown boots.
Janice said: "She left the house at about 3pm - she was only going to the shops.
"She told her dad she was going to the shops and he asked her to get a Tele.
"She didn't come back.
"She hasn't been answering her phone, texts or Facebook messages.
"It's not like her at all, it's totally out of character - she's quite shy.
"She's a home-body who spends most of the time with her boyfriend or her friends."
Melissa's mum and dad Ernie contacted the police at around 6pm after they became increasingly concerned.
Janice said: "The police have taken details of friends and relatives to try to find her.
"Four of her friends stayed at the house last night - they are in a mess.
"We feel terrible. I have just felt sick since yesterday.
"I just want her to come home and to walk through the front door."
Melissa, who has three sisters and a brother, has been working at the Booker cash and carry in Greenock through Argyll Training.
Strathclyde Police confirmed they had been informed about Melissa's disappearance yesterday.
Officers said inquiries are continuing to trace her.
Sergeant Ian Wood, of Greenock police: "A 16-year-old female was reported missing to police yesterday. Inquiries are continuing."
Anyone with information should call police on 492500.
