LOVE will be in the air tonight when Greenock Medical Aid Society hosts a special St Valentine's ball.

The charity event at Greenock Town Hall is expected to be just as successful as last year's dance.

The evening kicks off with a champagne reception at the earlier time of 6.30pm with a charity raffle, auction and top-class entertainment.

Ace auctioneer Brian Clements of McTear's, has generously agreed to conduct the sale.

Charles Young, chief executive of GMAS, pictured top right with guests at last year's ball, said: "The support we have received from many local businesses both large and small has been fantastic.

"We will generate as much publicity for these businesses as we can at the event so their support for the society is acknowledged by the 300 guests."

An amazing range of items will be on offer at the ball, including a holiday in a five star hotel in Majorca.

Charles added: "We are very fortunate to have received an original oil painting from the renowned Scottish artist Frances MacDonald which should attract four-figure bids.

"I am also particularly pleased with the tremendous support we've had from many of the local hotels and restaurants such as Fusion, Buckley's Firth Hotel, Priyas Palace and the Inverkip Hotel, who have kindly donated dinner vouchers."

Money raised on the night will go towards a major project recently approved to build an extension to Glenfield care home, which the society runs. It will provide additional single en-suite bedrooms and new staff facilities, easing pressure on the current waiting list for entry.
