Davidson: Budget hasn't helped area
INVERCLYDE has not been helped by the Scottish Government's budget, the Tories claimed today.
Conservative leader Ruth Davidson insisted that the SNP had refused to reverse 'savage cuts' to colleges like James Watt at a time when thousands of young people cannot get a job.
She said: "They also failed to produce a package of measures to help high streets in Inverclyde.
"The Scottish Government has additional money thanks to the UK Government, and the Scottish Conservatives identified savings which could have been used to help local people get back to work.
"The budget bill failed to include any new measures to help local businesses in Inverclyde, such as extending the small business bonus for new firms and introducing a business rates holiday for the first two years.
"The SNP have also made drastic cuts to the housing budget, which will hit the construction industry and see less homes built in towns such as Greenock and Port Glasgow."

Report commentThats what we deserve for voting differently from the rest of Scotland. Also we dont need more houses, what we need is jobs - Inverkip power station for a incinerator and waste management centre similar to what Falkirk has before some other area west of Glasgow beats us to it.

Report commentWell if we vote labour in again then its all our own fault. This dark dreary wee town is stuck in a labour way of thinking. Still blaming Maggie after over 20 years for its problems an easy target but the puppets of greenock are happy to still believe that

Report commentA business rate holiday would have helped some local businesses which is what Inverclyde needs , more houses we don't need, we need factories, we need jobs , too bad we are on the west coast and not north and east because that is where you need to be for the Scottish Government to take any notice
