Staff walkout hits rail service
A REDUCED rail service will run from Glasgow to Gourock today as signalling staff stage the first of two 24-hour walkouts.
Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers Union confirmed the strike action at the West of Scotland Signalling Centre last week.
It is part of an ongoing dispute with Network Rail over the issue of career progression.
ScotRail say that the number of trains running from Glasgow Central to Gourock will be cut from three to two an hour, with a revised timetable in operation.
Workers plan to strike again on Friday 2 March.
A spokesman for Network Rail said: "We're confident we will run a comprehensive service for passengers if these strikes go ahead.
"More than 95 per cent of services across Scotland ran as timetabled during the last strike.
"Only a small number of local Glasgow services had to be reduced."

Report commentI hope the signalling staff are not looking for public support.
It's not their employer they are effecting but the traveling public and if it was'nt for them they would be out of a job.
Shame on the lot of you.
Maggie had the right idea.

Report commentA dispute over career progression? Train driver to the fat controller! They should be grateful they have a job. If they don't like it, move over and give someone else a chance.
