Rents increase for tenants
RIVER Clyde Homes are to increase rents by just over five per cent.
Bosses say the rise sees the housing association keeping to its 'promise to increase rents by no more than the rate of inflation'.
The landlord made the commitment at the time of housing stock transfer in 2007 and said it would remain in place for five years.
Board members agreed last night to approve a recommendation to increase the rents, following a rent conference held in Greenock at the end of January.
Anne Marie Bagstad, chair of the RCH board, said: "While any rent increase is unwelcome news for tenants, especially in difficult economic times, our operating costs are set to increase this year.
"We made a promise at transfer to limit rent increases to inflation levels.
"As a result of the current economic conditions this means the rise will be no more than the rate of inflation."

Report commentIf i get a brand new house with both front and back gardens with driveway tossed in. then how could anyone possibly moan about a wee 5% increase. Now the ones living in damp ridden apartments with on-going problems that are not getting fixed then they should moan about it of course

Report commentThe pecentage that actually pays full rent is small, so the increase will come from the benefits agency
