HEARTBROKEN family and friends of a fun-loving Greenock teenager who was tragically killed in a road accident are keeping her memory alive with a quirky pyjama race in her honour.

Relatives of Jayde McVicar, who died in a car crash in 2010, will don their favourite nightwear for the second year in a row for a charity race in her memory.

The 19-year-old call centre worker was killed on the A78 just outside Troon while on the way home from a holiday.

The pyjama walk is being organised by Jayde's mum Jacqueline, who has vowed to keep her memory living on by helping local good causes.

She said: "The fact Jayde is not here is unbelievable.

"This helps keep her memory going and I don't want anybody to forget her - she was such a lovely girl.

"It also means her friends and family can remember her too in their own way.

"A few people last year were dressed up with rollers in their hair and as all sorts of characters so we are hoping for even more success this year."

The hardy bunch will set off from Greenock's T-Mobile call centre and head to the Esplanade dressed in their pyjamas.

Among the causes set to benefit from the money raised will be the Arts Guild Theatre, in honour of Jayde's love of performing.

The walk will also help create a permanent reminder of the former King's Glen and Wellington Academy pupil.

Jacqueline said: "The first 500 raised will go to the theatre because Jayde loved singing, dancing and the Arts Guild.

"That will mean her name will also be put on a seat at the new theatre for five years.

"She was in there a lot and did a lot of shows, dancing and singing.

"Jayde performed at Auchmountain Resource Centre as well - she loved helping people out.

"The rest of the money will go to Dreams Come True Inverclyde which helps sick children."

Last year the walk, along with other fundraisers, helped raise more than 6,000 for charity.

Jacqueline hopes people turn out in numbers and make this year's walk even better.

She said: "It's open to anyone who wants to come along and join in. Everyone is more than welcome.

"Last year was brilliant, the sun was shining and hundreds of people took part.

"Money went to Auchmountain halls, Linda Jackson School of Dance and Ardgowan Hospice.

"Because of its success we decided to do it again this year."

The pyjama walk takes place on Saturday 26 May.

Anyone wanting to take part is asked to email j.acs1@live.co.uk for sponsor forms.
