GREENOCK Central Library is set to mark a fresh chapter in its life - by moving to a new temporary home.

Local author Shari Low will lead the celebrations as the library, right, moves from its current building and reopens at the Business Store in Cathcart Street next Thursday.

As part of Inverclyde Council's 'asset management plan' the library is moving to the Business Store in nearby Cathcart Street before a permanent move to Wallace Place.

Writer Shari says she is delighted to be asked to do the honours at next week's opening ceremony.

She said: "I truly believe there is no better entertainment than a great book - so as a writer and a devoted reader, I'm delighted to be part of the celebrations to welcome the Greenock Central Library to its new home." The Business Store is a modern, disability-compliant building and the library will be situated on the ground floor offering improved access.

The temporary accommodation also has a public toilet and there is free parking available in the adjacent Cathcart Street car park.

The library will close to the public at 5pm this Friday before re-opening at 9.30am on Thursday 10 May.

Opening times remain unaltered in the new branch and the council says return dates for items borrowed prior to the move will be extended to compensate for the temporary closure.
