FEARS are today growing for the safety of missing Greenock man Edward Hendry who was last spotted more than a week ago.

Volunteers at the Haven in Kilmacolm, a rehabilitation and support centre for drug addicts, have joined the police in an appeal to the public for help to trace the 36-year-old dad.

He disappeared from the centre on Friday 7 December and has not been in contact with anyone since.

Volunteer Gordon McKay, who runs a bus outreach in the town for addicts, was one of the last people to speak to him before he went missing.

Gordon, who helps out at the Haven, said: "I had actually got Edward the place at the Haven when he came for help to the church.

"We just want to find him safe and well.

"We want to know that he is alright.

"I spoke to him on the Friday before he disappeared and we had a long chat.

"When the people at the Haven realised he was missing they searched the surrounding area.

"We have people across Greenock looking out for him, the people that come onto our bus as well as taxi drivers.

"We just want to help the police and do whatever we can." The Haven in Kilmacolm has close links with a number of churches in Inverclyde who run various projects on the streets to help addicts turn their lives around.

The Teen Challenge bus outreach project operates in both Greenock and Port Glasgow.

They offer shelter and support to addicts as well as referring them to rehab projects.

Edward, from Macbeth Road, was last seen at the Haven around 5.45pm on Friday 7 December.

He is described as 5ft 6in in height, of slim build, with a pale complexion and clean shaven.

He has short auburn hair and was last seen wearing a khaki coloured top and a pair of denim jeans.

Greenock Police are continuing to ask the public for help to trace Mr Hendry.

Sergeant Stuart Drake said: "Mr Hendry has now been missing for more than a week and concern is growing for his safety and welfare as he has not been in contact with his family.

"We would like to speak to anyone who knows of his whereabouts and we would urge anyone who has seen him since Friday 7 December to contact Greenock Police Office on 01475 492500."
