Threat to man A GREENOCK woman who threatened a person at court has been ordered to carry out unpaid work.

Sharon McGartland, 50, of Auchmountain View, threatened the male with violence while in Greenock Sheriff Court on 8 January.

She was ordered to carry out 200 hours by Sheriff Ruth Anderson.


Register for Europe vote VOTERS are being urged to make sure they are registered to have their say in the European elections on 22 May.

The district’s returning officer, John Mundell, said: “You will only be able to have your say on who represents you in the European Parliament if you are registered to vote by the deadline of 6 May.

“Many people think they are automatically registered because they pay council tax, but this isn’t true.

“Registering is quick and simple. All you have to do is visit www.aboutmyvote.co.uk and print off a form.”
Vandals slash cable AN area of Port Glasgow will be plunged into darkness after vandals slashed an electrical cable.

The cable is located on an underpass in Glasgow Road leading to Kelburn Industrial Estate.

Council bosses say it will cost £500 to repair because the area where the cable runs will need to be dug up.

Street lights in and around the area are now expected to be out for a few days.

A council spokesman said: “We will now get the necessary repairs done but the lights in this area will be out for a few days. If anyone has any information about who has caused this damage, we would urge them to do the decent thing and come forward to the police.” Port Glasgow councillor Jim MacLeod slammed the culprits.

He said: “It is annoying to see this vandalism happening.

“We cannot have this, it could have been dangerous.” Anyone with information should call police 101.


Staying safe this Easter DIY and gardening enthusiasts across Inverclyde are being warned to take eggs-tra care this Easter.

As part of NHS Scotland’s Be Ready for Easter campaign, people are being urged to be prepared to deal with any minor accidents before they reach for the tools or lawnmower.

In harmony A DAY of music-making to highlight issues around sectarianism will take place in Greenock this weekend.

There will be a chance to work with musicians to create songs which explore topics like hate crime and discrimination.

It takes place on Saturday at the Dutch Gable House in William Street, 10am-6pm.


Rail shake-up INVERCLYDE is part of a massive shake-up of rail services for the Commonwealth Games.

ScotRail is planning to run trains from Glasgow Central to Gourock later than normal on each night of the Games in order to meet increased demand.

A timetable giving full details of the changes — which include a significant increase in the number of carriages used — is set to be introduced on 21 July.


Firemen’s charity car wash FIREMEN will be out in force in Greenock on Saturday 19 April for a charity car wash.

Staff from the Rue End Street station be taking donations for local charities and the cancer unit at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow.

The car wash is open from 10am to noon.


Crafts on offer at the Kip A CRAFT art and design show takes place in the Chartroom at the Kip Marina on Sunday from 11 to 4pm.

It will feature designer-made silks, ceramics, jewellery, wood, fine arts, cards, bags, mosaics, glass, knitwear, home decor and more.

Entry is £1 and in aid of support Breakthrough Cancer.
