A KIDS’ choir from King’s Oak Primary raised the roof — with a little help from a top Scottish folk-rock band.

Reely Jiggered were on hand to bring out top tunes from pupils during a Scottish concert at the Greenock school.

It included a great performance of the sea shanty Drunken Sailor and the Burns classic Ae Fond Kiss from a choir consisting of p5, 6 and 7.

There was also singing from a p6/7 female vocal group, flautists from p6 and accompaniments on piano and clàrsach (Celtic Harp).P5 also recited poems.

The band’s Alison McNeill, 28, told the Tele she was impressed with pupils’ performances.

“It was fantastic. We held workshops to learn about Scottish culture, poetry and dancing.

“Kids also enjoyed haggis tasting with Irn Bru and shortbread.

“After the concert there was a ceilidh involving parents and families — they all loved it.

“Some of them said they should make ceilidh dancing part of PE lessons as they were so exhausted!” Reely Jiggered are Gourock sisters Alison and Fiona and Scott McLean, 25, from Glasgow.

They have received critical acclaim for their performances since forming in 2010.

Alison and Fiona jet off to Tokyo on Monday to perform and host workshops with Japanese children.

Teacher Audrey Hunter said: “The whole school did Scottish learning projects and this was a really nice end to it.” Thanks to funding from the Youth Music Initiative, Reely Jiggered are to visit Moorfoot Primary, St Francis’, St Patrick’s, Lady Alice, Craigmarloch and St Joseph’s.
