PRISONERS were evacuated from Greenock jail after fire broke out in a cell last night.
Inmates were taken out of a hall at Gateside for a short time when a reading lamp accidentally caught fire.
Greenock firefighters were called out at 6.15pm, but the blaze was extinguished before they arrived on the scene. A fire spokesman said a greeting card caught fire because it had been left too close to the lamp.
The card set fire to the lamp, and its casing melted.
No one was injured as a result of the small blaze.
