A GREENOCK offshore worker has conquered the famous Greenock godzilla burger — but says he felt like crying after devouring it.

Mark Duffy became the first person to complete Inverclyde’s answer to the colossal US eating challenges from TV’s Man v Food, which have been launched by John’s Joint in Lynedoch Street.

Stuffing down the monster burger with chips, onion rings and coleslaw did come at a price though.

Mark said: “At the end I felt like crying.

“Never mind putting me off burgers for life, this has put me off food for life!

“24 hours later I couldn’t even face having a bowl of cereal.” The six foot tall 27-year-old managed to put away five quarter pounders, 10 cheese slices, two potato scones, two rashers of bacon, two fried eggs and two rolls in only eight minutes.

He then munched his way through the large chips and cheese, a bowl of onion rings and a portion of coleslaw to complete the challenge in 29 minutes and 58 seconds — just two seconds under the 30 minute time limit.

Mark, from Luss Avenue, was inspired to take on the challenge after reading about Tele man Kristian Truelsen’s attempt last week.

He said: “I saw the story on the Telegraph website and decided to go for it.

“This is something I’ve always wanted to do as I watch Man V Food and because it was local I thought, ‘why not?’.

“My girlfriend thought it was disgusting though, as she’s training up for a 5k just now.” Mark, who won a t-shirt for his epic eating endeavour, revealed the secret behind his success.

He said: “From watching Man V Food I knew that starving yourself beforehand is wrong as your stomach gets smaller.

“So I had a roll and sliced sausage in the morning and after the challenge, I walked round Well Park – then lay down at home!”
