There will be no deliveries on Monday, before normal service resumes on Tuesday.


Taxi driver prepares for 53-mile fundraiser A GENEROUS taxi driver is preparing to complete a mammoth 53-mile race to raise funds for people with cancer.

Kevin Gill is part of a team from the Greenock Glenpark Harriers who will do the Hoka Highland fling ultramarathon, a gruelling race along the West Highland Way trail from Milngavie to Tyndrum near Crianlarich on 26 April.

He is raising money for the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre in memory of a late friend who was treated there.

Tools taken from van TOOLS were stolen from a Network Rail van parked in Greenock town centre.

The incident happened at Rue End Street — near to Morrisons supermarket — at around 1pm on Wednesday afternoon.

The van was unlocked at the time and the thief got away with work tools including meter readers and leads.

Police are calling for any witnesses to the incident to contact them by calling 101.


Pilates class is off THE evening pilates class at the Gamble Halls in Gourock is off on Easter Monday and will resume on Monday 28 April.

Fee support INVERCLYDE Council has agreed to become a supporter of an organisation which offers reduced legal fees to members of the armed services.

Armed Forces Legal Action (AFLA) was founded last July to bring together lawyers from across the UK to provide low cost assistance.

As elected members agreed unanimously to support AFLA, Councillor Gerry Dorrian said: “This is a welcome initiative.”
Hit on ear A GREENOCK woman who hit a man on the ear with a stone has walked free from court.

Arlene McArthur, 34, assaulted him at the Inverclyde Centre in April last year.

The offence happened while she was on bail, but McArthur was admonished at Greenock Sheriff Court.


Assault denial a GREENOCK man is to go on trial accused of an assault in which he allegedly spat on a woman and dragged her by the hair.

Andrew McCafferty, 21, denies three charges against him following an incident in St Lawrence Street last June.


Man admits assault A GREENOCK man has been fined £300 at court after admitting assaulting a woman.

Paul Henderson, 49, kicked his victim and pulled her hair at his home in West Blackhall Street in June last year.


Drink driving charge denied A WOMAN has appeared in court to deny an alleged drink-driving offence.

Jo Ann Stewart, 51, was stopped on Lyle Road, Kilmacolm, in January and is charged with having 80 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 30.

Stewart, of Earl Place in Bridge of Weir, appeared at Greenock Sheriff Court to plead not guilty through her solicitor Gerry Keenan.

Fashion show TICKETS are still available for a charity fashion show at Greenock Town Hall.

The posh bash on Thursday 24 April will feature clothes from shops like Coast, LK Bennett and Phase Eight as well as local retailers Coco and Claude, Alysons and Straps of Gourock.

There will also be trade stands on the night, as well as a cocktail bar and entertainment.

Money raised from the show will go to the Greenock Medical Aid Society, which runs Bagatelle and Glenfield care homes in Greenock.

The show starts at 7.30pm and tickets priced £10 are available from Alysons and Straps in Kempock Street, Gourock or by calling 729424.
