MAJOR problems with an overhead wire halted trains in and out of Inverclyde yesterday.
The Gourock and Wemyss Bay lines were affected by ‘severe’ disruption from around 12.45pm due to faults at Port Glasgow station. Operator ScotRail was forced to scramble buses to shuttle passengers between their destinations with services either cancelled or delayed.
Trains could only run between Glasgow Central and Paisley Gilmour Street, with coaches taking passengers on to Gourock and Wemyss Bay, pictured.
Journey times were extended by up to an hour.
A spokeswoman for ScotRail said: “We would like to apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused by circumstances beyond our control.” Engineers from Network Rail, which is responsible for the rail infrastructure, were called out for repairs which were completed by early evening.
