POLICE have launched an investigation after a van ploughed into a Larkfield house — wrecking the brickwork and windows.

The shocking incident happened early yesterday morning in Westmorland Road, leaving the front of the building extensively damaged.

Miraculously, no one was injured when the van rammed into the house, which was only built in the last couple of years.

Scenes of crime officers were examining the damage yesterday as a full probe got under way.

It’s understood that the vehicle drove through open gates on to the driveway and then into the property.

The modern house is owned and rented out by housing association River Clyde Homes (RCH).

A RCH spokesman said: “We can confirm an incident happened at a property in Westmorland Road.

“It’s been arranged for a structural engineer to go out and the property has been made safe and secure.

“A structural report will be required to assess the extent of the damage.” It is understood a male tenant lives alone in the property.

An onlooker at the scene said: “It was like something from a movie.

“The whole front of the house, brickwork and windows are smashed up.

“It was lucky no-one was killed.” Greenock CID say their inquiries are at an early stage.

Detective Constable Gordon Gibson told the Telegraph: “A vehicle struck a property in Westmorland Road, we don’t know the circumstances.

“We are not aware of anyone being injured in the incident.”
