LARKFIELD Children’s Centre held a fabulous sports day celebrating the Commonwealth Games.

The youngsters have been learning all about the Games, and took part under the colours of various countries, including Scotland and Australia.

They had egg and spoon and bean bag races, as well as an obstacle course, and their parents played a five-a-side football match.

Prizes were presented by veteran weightlifter George Byng of Greenock who has been chosen as one of the people who will carry the Queen’s Baton through Inverclyde.

George represented Scotland at the Games in Edinburgh in 1970 and was Scotland’s weightlifting manager/coach at the 1978 Games in Edmonton, Canada.

Centre acting depute head, Craig Scott, said: “We had a great day.

“Everyone went away with smiles on their faces!”
