SCORES of football crazy boys and girls are having a ball at this year’s series of Morton summer camps.

The Greenock club’s community trust coaching sessions are proving to be a real winner — with kids flocking to take part in them.

Training days are taking place this week at the Battery Park and over the water in Dunoon — with further camps set for Port Glasgow and Wemyss Bay.

Tom Elliott, Morton’s community trust engagement manager, today hailed the enthusiasm shown by the youngsters for the various programmes on offer.

He told the Tele: “The response has been fantastic and we are delighted at how many kids are taking part.

“It’s all about providing activities for children during the summer holiday — and the parents are very glad of it too!” Welcome additions this year include a pre-school training programme for youngsters aged two to four at the Ravenscraig Sports Centre.

And there’s also skills test days where kids get a score, with the opportunity of coming back to improve on their personal bests.

Tom said: “It’s been great — we have more than 100 kids taking part this week — but there’s always room for more.

“All the kids who take part get a certificate and a gift from the club.” Expert coaches put the youngsters through their paces and the camps are run in partnership between Morton, the SFA, Inverclyde Council, Active Schools/Sports Development Inverclyde and Dunoon Youth Football League.

If you want to join the fun and hone your soccer skills you can still book a place on the summer camps — which cover the entire school holiday period — by logging on to http://mortoncommunity.net/courses/holiday-courses/ Courses are priced at £7 for a single 10am-midday session; £10 to train from 10am-3pm; £29 for a week of two-hour courses; and £47 for seven days of the five-hour sessions.
