PROUDLY stepping out in front of the world at the spectacular Commonwealth Opening ceremony was an unforgettable moment for two Greenock hockey stars.
Medal hopefuls Gordon McIntyre and William Marshall — both former Greenock Hockey Club players — say deafening cheers and claps from the 40,000 strong audience raised the roof off Celtic Park.
William told the Tele: “It was pretty mental and crazy.
“As we walked closer to Celtic Park we could here the crowd going wild and the reception we got as we walked out was incredible — I was buzzing and my adrenalin was pumping.
“Afterwards when we got back to the village I had to have a cup of tea to calm down as I was so excited.” Gordon, who met Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, the world and double Olympic 100m champion, at the ceremony, was also blown away.
