A MAN was seriously assaulted in Greenock town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Police said two men jumped on the 37-year-old from behind and attacked him.
Detective Sergeant Mick Carr said: “It happened at 3am in West Stewart Street.
“The man was struck on the head and punched and kicked about the body.” The victim’s head was cut and he needed treatment at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
DS Carr added: “We are treating this as a serious assault and would like to hear from anyone who has any information about it.” Both attackers are described as white and of average height and build.
One was possibly wearing shorts and a t-shirt.
DS Carr added: “We are not aware of any weapons being used.” Any witnesses are asked to call the police non-emergency number 101.
