A MASSIVE, 8,000 tonne section which will make up part of the second of the Royal Navy’s new aircraft carriers edged its way down the Clyde yesterday.

It passed Port Glasgow just after 3pm after leaving the BAE yard in Govan earlier.

Tele photographer George Munro captured this shot of the hull section.

The huge mid-section is en route to Rosyth, where the carrier — HMS Prince of Wales — is being put together.

The block, transported by sea-going barge, is scheduled to arrive in Rosyth on Saturday.

It was a busy day on the river yesterday, with some of the remaining boats that had taken part in Saturday’s historic Commonwealth flotilla still making their way back from Glasgow.

Greenock Ocean Terminal also welcomed the giant Ruby Princess cruise ship, inset, to town for the latest in her series of summer visits to Greenock.

The liner’s horn was sounded several times as she edged her way towards the terminal, with the Clyde shrouded in a blanket of early morning fog.

Ruby Princess left for Invergordon last night.
