Police confirmed this evening that an 18-year-old is in custody after being detained today.
Stephen, pictured, 23, a dad of two, was found seriously injured in a close on Tobago Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Although emergency services rushed to his aid he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The arrested man is expected to appear at Greenock Sheriff Court tomorrow.
A full report will be forwarded to the procurator fiscal.
