AN amateur footballer has netted an award after being capped for Scotland.

Jamie Bradley was handed a commemorative silver salver for being the first Inverclyde player to achieve such a honour in 20 years.

Jamie, of Greenock High Former Pupils, was capped when he played against Northern Ireland in May.

Provost Robert Moran, who presented the accolade, said: “Inverclyde encourages all sporting activity and in recent years we have built fantastic facilities and invested heavily in modern 3G surfaces for local football clubs.

“It’s an honour to present this salver to Jamie on his achievement which brings great pride to us all locally.” Jamie kicked off his career with Port Glasgow Rangers U21 before progressing to Inverclyde Football Club.

He spent six years at the club and during that time gained three Player of the Year awards.

He moved to Greenock High in 2009 where he collected more silverware including a further three Player of the Year awards and two Players’ Player of the Year awards.

In June, he was also a member of the Scotland team which competed in the Uefa Regions Cup in Slovenia where Scotland topped a section containing Slovenia, Greece and San Marino to progress to the next stage next month.
