THERE are fears that last orders have been called on a well-established Greenock pub.

The Tele understands the Lynedoch Bar shut on Saturday night and the licensee closed the premises.

This would mark the end of an era for a public house which opened in 1885.

A source said: “Apparently customers drank the pub dry on Saturday night and the licensee closed it.” The bar has now been targeted by vandals.

The premises were locked up and some of its windows had been smashed when the Tele visited on Wednesday.

Uncertainty about the future of the pub follows a turbulent time at the premises.

In February, police were called to the establishment and found landlord Kevin Coyle drunk and disorderly inside.

Mr Coyle shouted and swore at officers after they arrived at the bar after hours.

He told them: “It’s my pub and I don’t need to let you in.” His licence was subsequently revoked by Inverclyde Licensing Board shortly after the incident.

Mr Coyle was fined £180 by Sheriff Tom Ward at Greenock Sheriff Court over the matter.

The pub was also banned from selling booze for four weeks in March after a series of alleged violent incidents, plus the discovery of an axe lying inside the premises.

Inverclyde Licensing Board had ordered a hearing on the basis of Police Scotland reports dating back to October 2013.
