A MOVING performance of a play about a ‘forgotten’ Greenock massacre proved to be a major hit.
‘The Day We Stood in the Square’ is a dramatisation of a horrifying event in Cathcart Street 194 years ago, when militia men opened fire on crowds who were protesting against the jailing of men on strike over unfair pay and conditions.
Local drama group the Riverview Players were overwhelmed by the response the show received during a recent sell-out performance at Greenock Town Hall.
It was so popular that there is now a waiting list for tickets for the group’s next performance.
