SUPPORTERS of a Yes vote in tomorrow’s referendum gathered in Greenock last night for a torchlight photo.
The event took place in Battery Park with people positioned to outline a large Yes using torches and mobile phone flashlights.
It was organised through social media and it’s estimated that between 1,500 and 2,000 people turned up.
A drone whizzed above to take images of the large crowd, with those taking part cheering and singing songs.
Mick Scott, one of the people there, told the Tele: “The atmosphere was unbelievable.” Also in attendance was SNP councillor Chris McEleny, who said the organisers ‘did their town proud’.
He described the rally as the ‘largest spontaneous gathering in Inverclyde’s history’.
Cllr McEleny added: “Ordinary people saw the positive message of hope transform itself into this magnificent symbol of democracy.
“Everyone there had an overwhelming sense of hope, a desire for change, the want of a better, fairer Scotland for all.”
