CLASSIC show tunes filled Greenock Town Hall on Saturday night to help raise funds for a children’s charity.

Around 700 people packed into the venue to be entertained with songs from some of the best known musicals, performed by a live orchestra and three choirs totalling 200 people.

They were joined by a cast of over 20 performers from several theatre groups.

The show, produced and directed by Inverkip man Kieran Young and hosted by Tele columnist Jean Johansson, included favourites from Singin’ in the Rain, Oklahoma and The Sound of Music, as well as a Phantom of the Opera medley from the orchestra.

The evening then finished with the audience on their feet to the sounds of Abba.

Money raised from the event will go to Dreams Come True, which provides once-in-a-lifetime experiences to terminally and seriously ill children.

The charity’s Scottish development officer Chris Jewell said: ‘What a night — it exceeded all we had planned and was a thrill to be a part of, especially knowing that it was largely young people performing and helping to raise funds for other young people less fortunate in health terms than they are.

“Several thousand pounds has been raised and we would like to thank everyone involved for their enthusiasm, their commitment and their talent and to the audience for supporting this wonderful event.

“Thanks also go to our sponsors Inverclyde Leisure.”
