TWO Inverclyde beauty queens have successfully challenged a senior councillor to take on a five-hour charity ‘bounceathon’.

The SNP’s Chris McEleny was dared by Face of Inverclyde 2013 Lauren Hair and 2014 winner Lindsay Smith to join them in a quirky fundraiser.

Not one to shirk a challenge, the Gourock councillor accepted the offer to take part in Lauren’s ‘Booty Bounce’ class tomorrow, when all three will join others in a continuous five-hour sponsored workout on trampolines.

It takes place at the Victorian Suite from noon-5pm and all proceeds will go towards Pilgrims Hospice and brain injury charity Headway.

Councillor McEleny, who is a goalkeeper with Port Juniors, said: “These ladies are doing a great job putting Inverclyde on the map and I’m happy to be helping two great causes.

“I’m also not one to back down from a dare but I might need to take Monday off work after it!” The event will also help Greenock model and dancer Lauren, 20, in her bid to be crowned champion at the Face of the World beauty pageant when she represents Inverclyde and Scotland at Disneyland Paris in France at the end of the month.

She said: “Chris was always joking that he would come along to one of my classes so when I said we would be doing this I dared him to sign up.” Lauren laughed: “In fairness he didn’t really accept, he was pressured into it.

“But we are delighted he’s taking part.” Lauren leaves for Paris on Sunday 26 October but before then she is doing her bit for charity and is roping in friends, family and fitness fanatics for the bounceathon to raise as much money as possible.

The event will also include cakes, refreshments, a raffle and lots of fabulous prizes.

It is open to everyone to either take part or simply come along and show their support, and those who think they cannot manage the full five hours can split the workload with a friend.

Greenock model Lindsay, who was crowned Face of Inverclyde 2014 earlier this month, said: “It’s going to be really tough but it will be great fun too and I’m looking forward to it.” Anyone who wants to join in should arrive at the Victorian Suite for registration at 11.30am.

l Lauren would like to thank all those who have already signed up to take part, sponsors, businesses for their raffle donations and her pageant sponsor Diamond Beauty in Skelmorlie.
