HUNDREDS of temporary jobs are being created at Gourock’s Amazon distribution centre to meet the demand for Christmas gifts, the company confirmed today.

The good news comes only a week after the online retail giant also announced the creation of additional permanent posts in the coming months.

Amazon have declined to say how many of the 1,000 new UK permanent jobs will be in Gourock but a spokeswoman told the Tele the number of seasonal posititions at Gourock would run into ‘hundreds’.

The company will hire 13,000 people in seasonal roles within its fulfilment and customer service centres over the Christmas period.

UK operators director John Tagawa said: “The thousands of seasonal associates who join us at this time of year play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers during this incredibly busy time.

“We look forward to welcoming back those associates who join us each and every Christmas, as well as many new faces who will be joining the Amazon team for the first time.” Mr Tagawa said hundreds of the seasonal jobs will lead to permanent, full-time positons.

Amazon is this year celebrating a decade in Gourock since its Faulds Park plant opened in July 2004.

The company’s Inverclyde operation began with just 30 employees, but now has several hundred and the firm is now a key local employer. Anyone interested in applying for the Christmas jobs should visit www.amazon-operations.co.uk
