TWO Greenock nurses have been honoured for going the extra-mile in providing care for elderly people living with dementia.

Barbara Lawson and Andrea Wyllie, who both work at Kincaid House in Greenock, picked up top accolades at an annual awards ceremony organised by care home owners Meallmore Limited.

Carer Barbara won the ‘Excellence in Dementia Award’ and colleague Andrea was named ‘Manager of the Year’.

Their successes were even sweeter because they were nominated for recognition by residents, their families and co-workers for going above and beyond the call of duty.

Both carers received their accolades for their dedication and support to residents living with dementia and their families and were honoured at a recent glitzy bash at Perth Racecourse.

Despite being given an individual honour, modest Barbara accepted the prize on behalf of everyone involved with Kincaid House.

She said: “I’m delighted to be given this award as it recognises the whole team at Kincaid House.

“I’m extremely passionate about supporting our residents with dementia and helping to ensure they live meaningful lives to the fullest.” Colleague Andrea was also thrilled with her award, which was for her involvement in implementing the home’s new approach to dementia care.

Andrea said: “I’m completely overwhelmed and grateful to win this award. I’m dedicated to my role and feel supported not only by the excellent team at Kincaid House, but across the company.

“One of the things I like most about my job is spending time with the residents and enjoying a cup of tea and a chat with them.” The Greenock nurses have also been praised by company bosses for their outstanding performances within their field of work.

Gerry Hennessey, managing director, said: “I am very proud of Barbara and Andrea for winning their awards.

“It’s important that we take time to recognise our employees’ outstanding efforts and ongoing commitment to our residents.

“These awards are a great way to identify these individuals and say thank you.”
