IMPROVEMENTS are being planned for Inverclyde housing that caters for older people.

More than a hundred properties are operated by Bield Housing Association in Greenock and Port Glasgow.

Association chief executive, Brian Logan, pictured, said a number of measures are being planned that will create “positive, exciting changes” for people who use Bield services.

He said: “These include developing a handyperson service, providing repairs by appointment, building more new homes, upgrading existing stock, ensuring high customer service, expanding the Bield at Home homecare service and providing innovative services for people with dementia.

“But central to all of that will be understanding what our tenants and service users want, and that means engaging more with them and delivering the services and standards that they want and expect.” In Greenock, Bield has 34 sheltered housing properties at Armadale Court and 40 at Carwood Court. It also has 29 very sheltered housing properties at Jamaica Court and 10 at Rowan Gardens as well as 42 sheltered housing properties at Crosshill Gardens in Port Glasgow.

The association also operate a ‘flexicare’ carer service in Inverclyde for people with dementia.

Speaking at the Edinburgh-based charity’s annual meeting, Mr Logan said there would be detailed consultation with customers, staff and partners to draw up their next five-year plan.

He said: “My priority will be to ensure we have a sustainable financial plan which allows us to do all the good things we want to do but keep us viable in the long-term.

“That means being serious about making the best use of existing limited resources, reviewing our processes and harnessing the investments we’ve made to help us reduce our costs.”
