UNIVERSITY graduates from Inverclyde are supporting a local project which helps children with autism.

Inverclyde and District Association of University Women visited ‘Reach for Autism’ at their new Ratho Street base to hear about the work being done there.

Rena Robinson, of the association, said they were very moved by a talk by Reach’s volunteer managing director Vicky McCarthy.

Rena said: “Ten of our members visited the charity.

“They were given a very warm, cheerful welcome and a tour around the centre. We were all very impressed, and surprised, by the range of facilities on offer.

“Music, arts and crafts, physical activity, help and instruction for household tasks, relaxation, personal care, privacy to discuss special problems and most importantly, companionship, are all there for those who attend the centre.

“The knowledge, enthusiasm and determination of Vicky and her team are boundless. They continually strive to improve the support, services and opportunities for the children, adults and families living with autism.” Association members raised £50 for Reach, and presented a cheque to Vicky, who said she was very grateful for their support.

She said: “It was lovely to have the community coming into the centre and a privilege to have the ladies here.

“We’re a community organisation and a community resource.” Anyone who would like to help Reach for Autism in any way should email hello@reachforautism.org or call 729072.
