A TERRIFIED woman says she is scared to stay in her own home after claiming she was threatened by a neighbour.

Elizabeth Hunter, of Florence Street in Greenock, says the verbal abuse is the second attack in a matter of weeks.

The 57-year-old, who lives with her husband Gordon, says she was relaxing at home when she suddenly heard a torrent of shouting and swearing outside her property.

She said: “Gordon was standing smoking in the kitchen with the light out — the windows were open and we heard this shout of ‘Karma’, complete with swear words, and someone saying ‘You’re getting it’.

“I’m frightened in my own home, a bag of nerves. I was scared and started shaking — my legs went like jelly.” The grandmother suffers from high blood pressure and her husband is also in poor health.

This is the second time the couple say they’ve been targeted, after a mixture of paint and porridge oats was splashed against their front door in a bizarre incident which took place last month.

The stress of that episode resulted in Gordon, 57, having an anxiety attack.

Elizabeth said: “He was taken to hospital because he couldn’t breathe and he had pains in his chest. I thought he was having a heart attack but it was anxiety through all this stress.” Her husband has since undergone medical tests and doctors say he could develop Parkinson’s. Elizabeth, who has reported the latest incident to the police and River Clyde Homes, said: “He needs nine tablets a day and he’s not in good health, so he doesn’t need this.

“Only a few days ago I thought it had all calmed down and now it’s started up again. It doesn’t sound a lot, and if I was younger I wouldn’t be like this, but I’ve got high blood pressure.” The couple have now resorted to taping up their letterbox for fear something will be pushed through it.

Elizabeth said: “We just want to be left in peace.” Constable Kyle MacLachlan, of Greenock police, confirmed the incident had been reported.

He said: “We received a call regarding a man shouting abuse through the window.

“We are investigating the incident and have also notified the community safety department.” Houses bosses say they are also looking into the complaint.

Duncan McKnight, a neighbour relations manager at River Clyde Homes, said: “We have spoken with Mrs Hunter following a report of anti-social behaviour and are liaising with Police Scotland to investigate the complaint.”
